JJ Luna's personal privacy blog. In 1959 he moved to Spain's Canary Islands to begin a then-illegal educational work that included secret meetings in remote mountain forests. Although pursued by General Franco's Secret Police, he maintained his privacy via a false identity and was never caught. When the Spanish dictator moderated Spain’s harsh laws in 1970, Luna was free to come in from the cold. However, he remains in the shadows to this day. He is currently an international privacy consultant.

Chris Hadnagy’s speech at RSA
I seldom recommend a video but if you want to know how dangerous social engineering can be, you gotta see this one. You will learn why so many companies, no matter how big, will sooner or later be hacked.
The website is http://www.social-engineer.com/in-the-news/
Scroll down to the video “Human Hacking Exposed: 6 Preventative Tips That Can Save Your Company.”
Leave me a comment if you think you learned something from this.

Thanks for this link, Jack! I so enjoy reading everything on your website!
ReplyDeleteAs a practitioner of the "How to Be Invisible" way of life for over 10 years, this particular video didn't tell me much. It was fairly vague and directed at businesses.
Interestingly, I just finished the most awesome book on the subject--Kevin Mitnick's newest book "Ghost in the Wires". It's his own story and he is VERY specific about how he performed his social engineering and hacking. It was both cool to learn the techniques and scary to know what can be used against you. It's also one of the most suspenseful stories I've ever read!
Another very educational source about privacy, surveillance, & social engineering: a TV show called "Burn Notice" (USA network on cable). This fictional show is about a former spy and the creator of the show, Matt Nix, is VERY particular about including very accurate and realistic lessons on surveillance, social engineering, etc. It is unlike any TV show I've ever seen. You can get all seasons on DVD or from thepiratebay.org.
For my fellow privacy-seekers (who are very serious), the above-mentioned resources are worth every minute of time you put into them.
